Welcome from the PTO

August 2010

Dear Maxey Families,

Welcome to the 2010-11 school year from the Maxey PTO. I am excited to continue working with parents and teachers to make this school year the most it can be for each Maxey student. The PTO gives our students access to growth experiences and fun additions to the school year that district standards can’t provide. I am proud to be a part of these exciting projects.

My goals for the PTO this year stem from what I've learned by being involved with the PTO for the past 2 years. So parents and teachers, this PTO is our avenue to bring the best possible additions to our children's school day. Our children will only be in Kindergarten one time or 3rd grade this year only. The involvement of parents is an important factor in a child's learning and overall elementary experience. By focusing our priorities as a group and directing our resources to those areas, we can help make the 2010-11 school year the best ever! After all, that is what a PTO should do.

Last year the Maxey PTO provided the $25,000 concrete walking path installed behind the school. Prior PTO accomplishments include funding a complete mobile computer lab to be used in addition to the district supplied lab. These are both large contributions that will be used for years to come at Maxey. This year the PTO goal is to purchase projectors for every classroom. Our technology needs continue from there, however, to get Maxey in line with other local schools, the projectors are our top priority.

The PTO survey results from May indicate parent’s main interest lies in individual classroom needs, followed by technology and media center enhancements. Full survey results can be viewed at maxeypto.org. The projectors fill the needs of two high priority areas. Projectors enable teachers to bring technology into every aspect of the school day. Current projector use in art, media and individual classrooms brings exciting advances and guides our PTO goal of providing projectors for every classroom.

September 9, 2010, the PTO is sponsoring the 1st Annual Maxey Family Walk-a-thon. This will allow us to show off the concrete walking path. Students will walk during the day and parents may join if they’d like. The day will raise health awareness and promote benefits of walking. The Walk-a-thon will be a fundraiser for the technology needs of Maxey (projectors). Our goal is to raise $20,000.

PARENTS IT IS UP TO US. Strong Support of the Walk-a-thon will allow projectors to be ordered and in use by October. 100% of your walk-a-thon contribution will go to Maxey technology. Your child will bring home details the first week of school.

I encourage you to check out maxeypto.org. You will find results of the PTO survey conducted in May, find volunteer opportunities and keep up to date with calendar information. I look forward to working with many Maxey parents and to witnessing the exciting growth at Maxey this year.

Enclosed in this packet are the PTO Membership Form (which doubles as a phone directory order form) and Maxey PTO Committee Volunteer Sign-Up which lists current volunteer needs. Please turn in the paper copies in the PTO box by the office or sign up online at maxeypto.org.

Sincerely,
