PTO General Meeting
September 10, 2007

Principal’s report: Mr. Decker welcomed everyone to the 13th year of Maxey. He thanked the parents for entrusting their children to Maxey where they can learn and feel safe. Construction on the building is coming along. The yellow pod is up and running with just a few items still needed. The 2nd grade pod is planned to open sometime between fall break and November with all construction being finished in January. The expansion of the multi-purpose room will be finished soon which will greatly help in seating everyone for lunch. We chose to stay at the school and co-exist with the construction rather than being bused to Abbot. So far, this has worked out OK. When the construction is finished, we will have all grade levels in the pods, 6 classrooms in each pod, a larger multi-purpose room, and adequate early childhood and special education areas. The portables will be removed.

A power point presentation in support of the Mobile Lab was given by Sean Bailey and Nancy Dondlinger.

Teacher’s Report: Teachers were introduced by Sybil Gruhl.

Secretary’s Report: Minutes from the May 2007 meeting are available on the web site. Thank you notes were received and shared at the meeting; Diane Gilfillan and Mary Helen Peters thanked the PTO for hand shovel’s in recognition of Librarian’s Day, thanks from Kelly and Melanie Schilousky for the bouquet sent for their daughter’s service, for a Gymboree gift card from Megan, Sean, Aubrey, and Ellie Bailey, from Dawn Cade for a Gymboree gift card, and for an ice cream gift card for Alane Wahlstrom and Dianne Smith.

Treasurer’s Report: A review of the budget was given by Tina Horn. 2 items are up for amendment; 1) To increase the staff appreciation budget by $1,000 for a total of $1500, and 2) to increase the technology budget to $37,132 due the increase in technology equipment. These two items were approved by the PTO executive board. If you need a cash box for an event you need to plan ahead and request early.

President’s Report: Mr. Decker is interviewing 2 candidates tomorrow to supervise the after school enrichment classes. The MAX is April 19th and Fun Night is September 20th. There will be both a book fair and a book exchange this year. The book fair will be run by the specialists during the same time as parent teacher conferences, October 4 –11.

New Business: The grade level equitability and technology expense lists were reviewed. The 2 items for amendment presented by the treasurer were voted on. The PTO final budget was approved with the two amendments presented by the treasurer. An amendment to the Grounds and Landscaping budget did not pass.
