PTO General Meeting
September 8, 2008

Principal's Report

Welcome and thank you for entrusting your children to us. The census is around 770, the capacity of our school is 850. The kindergarten teachers are doing a great job of acclimating the 1st time all day kindergarteners.

Teacher's Report

Thank you PTO for the great beginning of the year food!

Secretary's Report

Thank you notes were received for both Mary Helen Peters and Susan Holton for the retirement gifts and well wishes. The May 2008 PTO minutes are posted on the website.

Treasurer's Report

Additions/modifications to the budget were discussed.

President's Report

Thank you for coming to the PTO meeting. Volunteers are needed in the media, you can sign up on the website or in person. A Fun Night co-chair and a VIP parent volunteer are needed as well.

Old Business

Chris Kiewra explained the plan for the outdoor education classroom. This has been in the works for awhile but put on hold secondary to the bond issue passing. This outdoor classroom can provide both play and learning areas for all students. We are working with the Lower Platte South NRD, a grant is approved. There is a website to reference which will explain the outdoor education further: healthyfamilesplayoutside.org.

New Business

2008-2009 changes and additions discussed in detail. Overall budget is comparable to the previous year's budget. Budget was approved. We will be one new fund-raiser in addition to the MAX. This will come home in Wednesday folders. All fund-raisers are optional.

Committee Reports

The MAX

Jen Graf is chairing this event. More volunteers are needed. The first meeting is Monday September 15th at 7:00. The MAX will be held at Hillcrest Country Club on April 4th. This is Maxey's major fund-raiser for the year.

Special Education

Over 150 POGO cards were sold. Thank you for the support. This will enable us to purchase needed items for our special ed dept.

Membership

350 families and 31 staff have joined the PTO so far. We need more mentor families for our many new Maxey families.

Grounds & Development

We are looking to hire someone for $10 per hour, approximately 2 hours per week, to care for the landscape around Maxey.

Fall Fun Run

The fall fun run is October 18th at Holmes Lake Park.

Respectfully submitted,
Christa O'Dell
