PTO General Meeting
November 9, 2009
Guest Speaker
Guest Speaker, Jennifer Conway, spoke about the new Wellness Committee and the Healthy Kids program. The goal of the committee is to encourage healthy eating habits and to promote physical activity for Maxey students. More information is available at www.healthiergeneration.com
The regular meeting of the Maxey PTO was called to order was called to order by President Mary Schleich at 7:15 p.m.
Principal's Report
Principal Decker reported that Maxey’s current enrollment is 870 students. Due to the growing enrollment, Mr. Decker expects portable classrooms to be in place at Maxey next year. Ground breaking on the track is expected to take place on Monday, November 16.
Secretary's Report
Secretary Beth Boswell shared thank you notes from the teachers. Minutes from the September 14, 2009 PTO meeting were approved.
Treasurer's Report
Treasurer Stephanie Blehm reported that Fun Night grossed over $8000. Receipts for the QSP fundraiser are currently still being processed. The recent McTeacher’s Night Fundraiser at McDonald’s brought in $578. The deposit has been made for the 5th Grade Camp bus. Treasurer Blehm also submitted a written report of the current financial standing of the PTO.
Teacher's Report
Teacher Representative, Greg Tebo, thanked the over 200 parent volunteers that helped out at the Fall Classroom Parties.
President's Report
Co-President Mary Linafelter reported that the Fun Night Basket Auction made more this year than in any previous year. The remaining cookie dough from the QSP fundraiser will be sold for $10 each.
The Book Fair grossed over $14,000. Media Specialist, Sheri Christen has already begun purchasing new materials for the Media Center at Maxey.
The PTO Directory is still being printed. The new family privacy act has changed the information that can be put in the directory. The directory can no longer include class lists, but will include the grade level. Information on opting in or out of the Directory may be included in the August packet next school year.
Co-President Mary Schleich reported that plans for a second Nature Night at Maxey are underway. The NRD has contacted the PTO about participating in Nature Night, which will most likely take place in May.
The PTO is still looking for a President-Elect, as the office is currently vacant. Teachers are asked to submit suggestions for a nominee. Anyone interested in the position can contact any member of the Executive Committee.
Old Business
Work on the track is scheduled to start on November 16. The rest of the Outdoor Classroom will wait until more is known about the placement of portables and installation of the track.
Committee Reports
After School Enrichment Committee
Chairperson Chris Kennedy, reported that classes would begin in February. Each class will be 8 sessions long and will cost between $30-$35.
Fundraising Committee
Chairperson John Eslick, asked that if there are any problems with QSP orders that teachers are aware of, that they email him as soon as possible.
Fall Fun Run
Chairperson Michelle Hrbek reported that 21 families signed up for the Fun Run/Walk. Due to the snow, the event was held in the school, and participants walked the hallways.
Picture/Yearbook Committees
Chairperson Angel Coleman reported that Picture Day went well and the committee is beginning work on the yearbook. Parents and teachers are requested to send in any pictures that they may take at school for use in the Yearbook.
Staff Appreciation Committee
Chairperson Courtney Elliott reported that information forms will again be sent out to teachers, and that the committee was finding the forms very helpful.
